Remembering Jim
The Bear Essentials Fund was born from a simple yet powerful legacy: the life of Jim. Known affectionately as “Jimbro” or “Bear” to those who loved him, Jim was the ultimate connector. He was the person who showed up before you asked, who identified a need before it was spoken, and who believed that everyone deserved to have their basic “essentials” met—whether that was a helping hand, a warm meal, or a moment of laughter.
Jim lived his life filling the gaps for others. When the Bear Essentials Fund was established, our mission was to carry that spirit forward by providing comfort and care to those who needed it most.
The Jimbro Box
Our First Chapter
In our early years, that mission took the physical form of the Jimbro Box.
Named in honor of Jim’s nickname and his signature “bro-hugs,” these boxes were designed to make someone’s day just a little bit better. They were filled with physical essentials—items of comfort, utility, and joy—delivered to individuals facing difficult seasons. The Jimbro Box was our way of saying, “You are seen, you are loved, and we are here to help you through.” It was a grassroots effort that touched countless lives, providing a tangible reminder that no one has to walk their path alone.
Filling the Readiness Gap
The Evolution
As we grew and worked alongside various community partners, we identified a new, critical “readiness gap” in the charitable sector. We encountered incredible non-profit organizations with the same heart and drive as Jim, but they were struggling to scale.
